We designed this island for an avid cook. It plays with the relationship between void and solid spaces, creating deeper recesses in some places and shallower shelves elsewhere. This not only gives the islsnd four distinct sides, but also quite a bit of storage. Since this kitchen is part of an open plan space, we built the island to be an elegant furniture piece and topped it with a walnut butcher block, copper sink and faucet.
